Comment on Genetic Test? For the Birds? by Carol Willis

I'm a member of 23andme.com and it's been one of the most fascinating things I've done in 60 yrs. Interpretation of the raw data is where things can easily get distorted in genetics, especially direct-to-consumer (DTC) genetics, people having actually either more or less risk than the interpretation would indicate. I see DTC genetics as more for the amateur researcher (potentially 1-5% of the population?) who does not press others to interpret the data ("so what does it all mean?"), but rather is proactive and prepared to do his own searches and research into the medical literature and biochemistry, based on
the Raw Data Browse feature available through companies such as 23andme.com in their Complete edition (includes 550,000 SNPs). Despite that DTC genetics are marketed to the general public and do have many fun features that can get people more interested in genetics and be the first on their block to have their genetics, DTC genetics is not for everyone. The more
educated, proactive, search- and research-oriented person can benefit beyond measure if he applies himself over time. I've compiled various SNP lists that use data from 23andme.com so people can then look up their own SNPs by category such as inflammation, detoxification, Vitamin D, dopamine-related, estrogen, etc. It will soon be possible to get a lot more out of the DTC services faster because of such preparatory groundwork by amateur pioneers. And it is fabulous to then correlate this information with functional testing such as organic acids, amino acids, etc testing for a broader and deeper integrative view. That's my vision of the possibilities.

The main practical purpose of dryer sheets is to eliminate static electricity. From what you say, better to shun fabrics that generate static electricity and stick to e.g. 100% cotton instead. Softness and scent are
red herrings here and non-issues.

Comment on Synerplex Amino Acids – Replacing My Aminoplex by Kathleen

Hi Dr. Schauss:
My doctor (an alternative MD) tells me to avoid all artificial sweeteners. Should I avoid the Synerplex Amino formula that's sweetened, then? I already put a scoop of BCAAs in my post-workout drink, which is a scoop of whey, plus a scoop of glutamine, plus a scoop of creatine? Would taking your formula be redundant?
I am nearly 55 and work out hard, but frustrated to have little to no muscle growth. Getting lean is VERY frustrating! I take bioidentical hormones (estro, prog and test). A saliva test shows I have adrenal fatigue, so my MD put me on natural hydrocortisone for 6 months to rest my adrenal glands. Also taking DHEA and natural thyroid (low thyroid function). A single workout can wipe me out but I can't NOT go to the gym! Not sure what to do!

Thanks!
